In an agreement with Aviation Lease and Finance Company, Air india has just leased its first Airbus A320neo. With India currently being the fastest growing commercial aviation market (according to Forbes), its no surprise that this aircraft is just one of fourteen that Air India plans to lease.
Insisting all the aircraft are powered by Leap 1A engines, this is also the first re-engined narrowbody plane leased by Air India, making them the ninth Asian operator of this type of aircraft.
Last November, Air India also sought approval from ALAFCO to lease up to seven new A320neo jets for up to twelve years. These jets were also to be powered by the Leap 1A engines and delivered by June of 2018.
Currently, Air India has 110 aircraft in service, with 68 of them being the A320 family jets.
