AIRBUS - Orders & Deliveries - Dec 31, 2011
Airbus completed another record business year with a month that included numerous milestones of its own, as 217 orders were recorded in December and 57 aircraft were delivered to customers worldwide.
These totals boosted Airbus’ gross orders for 2011 to 1,608, while net orders in the 12 months (taking the year’s cancellations into account) reached 1,419 – both representing new records. Airbus delivered a record 534 new jetliners during the year, up from the 510 provided in 2010.
December’s business included more key contracts for the fast-selling A320neo Family, while another airline joined the A380 customer list with an important order for 10 of these very large aircraft. This brought the overall number of A380s sold to 253 from 19 customers.
Republic Airways Holdings, Inc., the parent company of U.S-based Frontier Airlines, led the December orders for Airbus’ new engine option (neo) variants of its A320 product line with bookings of 60 A320neo and 20 A319neo aircraft – firming up a commitment announced during the 2011 Paris Air Show. Another U.S. carrier – Spirit Airlines – ordered 45 A320neo jetliners, while an unidentified customer booked 35 A320neo aircraft in December.
Completing the new business in December for Airbus’ A320 Family was Mexican low cost carrier Volaris’ contract for 14 A320neo and 30 A320 jetliners – the largest single commercial aircraft order by an airline in the country; along with confirmation of Comlux’ order for an ACJ321, which was the first for this largest Airbus Corporate Jetliner version.
With these bookings, combined firm orders for the A320neo Family reached 1,256 from 23 customers, while the sales volume for the complete A320 Family stood at an overall total of 8,292.
The new business in December also included two A330-200s for Intrepid Aviation Group, bringing combined orders for the A330 Family to 1,186.
Deliveries during December marked a new monthly high of four A380s, with two provided to Emirates and one each received by Qantas and China Southern. As a result, Airbus delivered a record 26 A380s during 2011 – compared to 18 in 2010 – increasing the total worldwide fleet to 67.
Among the 44 A320 Family jetliners provided to customers in December was the milestone 7,000th aircraft delivered from this Airbus single-aisle product line, which was an A231 provided to US Airways.
Deliveries during the month also included nine A330s, which were received by Aeroflot, Aircastle (for South African Airways), China Eastern Airlines, CIT (for Eva Air), Egyptair, Guggenheim Aviation Partners (for China Airlines), Hong Kong Airlines (for Hainan Airlines) and Thai Airways International, along with an aircraft provided to Airbus Military for conversion into an A330 Multi Role Tanker Transport for operation by AirTanker in service with the UK Royal Air Force.
